
GeoIndex browser requirements
Supported Web browsers
GeoIndex may work with other combinations of browsers and operating systems, but they have not been fully tested.
Other requirements
- JavaScript enabled in the browser
- Popup blockers must allow the website to open a new browser window
- Internet Explorer and Firefox users may not see map coordinates displayed in their browser status bar. Security settings in
in these browsers often disable this functionality by default. The following
changes will re-enable this functionality, but please be aware that
you are making changes to the security settings within your browser.
Internet Explorer
- In Internet Explorer, select Tools - Internet Options - Security
- Click Trusted sites and then click the Sites button to
add the GeoIndex server to your list of trusted sites.
- Enter http://maps.bgs.ac.uk, make sure Require server
verification is unchecked and click Add
- Click Close
- Click Custom level
- Scroll down towards the end until you get to the Allow status
bar updates via script option. Change this to enabled.
- Click OK and Apply the changes.
- Close and reopen Internet Explorer 7 and you should now be able
to see the coordinates within the status bar when using GeoIndex.
- Note that the security changes you have made will only apply
to your trusted sites. All other websites will remain unchanged.
Firefox
- In Firefox, select Tools - Options
- Click the Content option along the top of the dialog box
- Tick the Enable Javascript option and then click the Advanced button
- Under the Advanced Javascript options tick the option for Allow scripts to change status bar text.
- Click OK.
- Click OK.
