NERC Soil Portal Help:
Welcome to the NERC Soil Portal Viewer. The purpose of the viewer is to allow you to see what kind of soil-related datasets are present in NERC archives. The viewer has a number of functions to help you do this.
Changing backdrops and finding locations:

Use the Switch Basemap tool to change the topographical background of your map.

Use the search tool to find a UK postcode or place name .
Zooming and panning:

To ‘pan’ within the map, use your mouse to ‘click-drag’ the backdrop to your area
of interest, or use the keyboard cursor keys.
To ‘zoom’ within the map, use the mouse scroll wheel (if present), the slider bar shown in the upper left of the map window, double-clock on the map (to zoom in sequentially).
Selecting layers to view:

The left hand side of the viewer shows the available groups of maps. Click on the
small arrow next to each group (circled in red) to reveal the individual
map layers.
Note that layers written in red ink cannot be seen in the viewer until you have zoomed in to an appropriate viewing scale. Use the slider bar to set the transparency of the layer.
Identifying map objects:

To identify the data behind each map object simply ‘click’ on it with your mouse.
The Identify window will open and show details of the data available at that location
for all the currently viewable map layers.
Switch between the layers of data by using the small arrows (shown in red), or select a specific layer from a list shown when clicking the small arrow marked in green.
